From: PA Chapter of the American Planning Association – Click Here, PRESS RELEASE

The Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA-PA), through its Great Places in PA Program, annually designates Great Places. For 2021, the Great Places categories were Greenways/Trails, Public Spaces, and Streets. Eight nominations achieved a Great Places designation, bringing the total Great Places in PA to 46. Great Places have a sustainable vision for the future and serve as a model for other communities. Having high quality examples of successful planning efforts throughout the Commonwealth to share and promote helps to achieve the Chapter’s mission and vision.

APA-PA is proud to announce the designation of Lions Pride Park in Warrington Township, Bucks County, as a 2021 Great Public Space in Pennsylvania. This 47-acre Park is located in one of the Township’s greenways and is easily accessible. Its development resulted from much community involvement, including students, and a partnership between the Township and Lions Club. This unique, ADA compliant park offers both traditional and nature based recreational and educational opportunities for visitors of all ages and abilities. Among the popular children’s attractions is Kids Mountain, an area for creative free play and winter sledding, formed from the existing landscape and planted with native species and pollinator plants along the climbing area. For adults, the Grove provides a place to relax and socialize. There is also an array of visual, audio, tactile, and sensory experiences throughout the Park, including a beacon phone application to hear audio descriptions of points of interest and a music alcove that incorporates sound into the Park. Usage at the Park has continued to grow, resulting in a positive impact on the local economy and quality of life. In the words of the Township, Lions Pride Park has addressed the number one issue identified by our community: provide a safe and fun place for everyone to play and relax.

Lions Pride Park, together with Jim Dietrich Park in Muhlenberg Township/Berks County, comprise the slate of 2021 Great Places in PA in the Public Spaces category. Additionally, one Great Street and five Great Greenways/Trails were designated. These Great Places demonstrate the rewarding results that occur through community partnerships, planning, and dedication. In recognizing the 2021 Great Places in PA, the Chapter also celebrates the many community leaders and officials, professionals, and residents who contribute to making the designated places “great.” For information on previously designated Great Places, please visit www.planningpa.org.
